‘Parliamentary elections will be held in time as stipulated in the constitution of the country, regardless of BNP’s decision to join or not. If they come, welcome, if not, it is up to them.’ Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu told in a meeting with visiting Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) President Mahendra Ved and members from both Bangladesh and India on Friday late evening at his Hare road residence in the capital.
Inu said, ‘In democracy, political parties remain committed to constitution. However, Khaleda Zia’s open declaration to disrupt the last parliamentary elections has proven BNP’s non-democratic nature.’
‘It is not the elections they thrive for, their goal seems to attaining power at any manner, be it resorting to violence, be it through conspiracy, they showed’, the minister told.
With CJA President Mahendra Ved, Jayanta Roy Chowdhury and Kingshuk Roy from India and Shyamal Dutta, Parveen F Chowdhury, Osman Gani Mansur, M Zahid Newaz Khan, Aminur Rashid and Badal Roy from Bangladesh CJA chapter attended the meeting.
